NFL PLAYOFFS...WIN OR GO HOME!!!

The Bowl games are done, the New Year has passed but 2006 has just started to get exciting!! This weekend marks the first of a drive to Houston for Super B XL , and a shot at the NFL Championship Title. With some teams on bye, the Wild Card games will be played, thus ending the dreams of some and giving hope to the dreams of others. First up on Saturday (4:30 pm EST) will be the Washington Redskins going into Tampa Bay. This Buccaneer defense has been dominant for the last 10 years, and this year is no different. On offense, young "Cadillac" Williams is driving this team with his incredible ability to break tackles and make defenders miss. Washington boasts a decent defense of its own, but it is the Redskin offense that has been making all the noise this year. WR Santana Moss has had a breakout season, becoming QB Mark Brunell's favorite deep target. A high-powered offense playing in the home of one of the leagues best defenses....and that is just for starters.

The current champions are the New England Patriots, who play host to the surprising Jacksonville Jaguars at 8:00 pm on Saturday. After a slow start, Tom Brady has his offense clicking on all cylinders and that famous defense is finally healthy, and playing its best ball of the year. Foxborough Stadium is an extremely tough on visiting teams, and this weekend will be no different as the Jaguars come in a little banged up on offense. Byron Leftwich might get the start in this one, which will mark his first appearance since injuring his ankle on November 27th, and could provide the necessary boost that this young team needs to put points on the board. Jacksonville won 12 games this year, and will be looking for lucky #13 to be an upset.in New England.

Sunday starts early with the first game at 1:00 pm EST. The New York Giants, having lost 2 of their owners in 2005, seem to be playing as if on a mission and will look to continue to do in front of their home crowd. RB Tiki Barber is being hyped as the NFL MVP, and comes off another 200+ yd game. QB Eli Manning has started to become of age this year, and has the weapons to take the Giants deep into the playoffs. The Carolina Panthers have their own weapons, with WR Steve Smith turning this year into an exhibition of sorts and proving to all the doubters that he is a legitimate top 3 receiver in this league. The Panther defense has handled its share, as well, remaining one of the toughest against the run. Sunday, we will see just how tough.

Rounding out the first weekend of the NFL playoffs is quite possibly going to be the most exciting to watch. A rivalry that hasn't been much in years past, but this year, with both teams playing at such a high level, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals should put on quite a show. QB Ben Rothlesburger is truly the captain of this team, acting as a true general on the field. WR Hines Ward is still one of the NFL's toughest receivers and has big playmaking ability. RB Jerome Bettis might be playing in his final season and will look to put on a memorable show against another top Defense. Meanwhile, in Cincinnati, times have changed. The Bengals are no longer the Bungels, but rather an NFL powerhouse. QB Carson Palmer and WR Chad Johnson are the best 1-2 combo in the league, except for maybe a certain duo in Indianapolis. RB Rudi Johnson has turned it up a notch in the second half of the season, and big expectations abound in Ohio. The Bengals better not overlook this impressive Steeler team, however, or their Cinderella Season might end quicker than expected.
