The Oak Tree Racing Association will host the 25th running of the Breeders' Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park on Oct. 24-25,
Breeders' Cup. This will be the seventh time the Breeders' Cup has been held in Southern California. Hollywood Park hosted the inaugural
Breeders' Cup in 1984 and again in 1987 and 1997. The Breeders Cup has previously been held at Santa Anita in 1986, 1993 and 2003.
There are 3 new races to look forward to on Breeders’ Cup 2008 as officials of Breeders’ Cup Limited, the addition of three new
Breeders’ Cup World Championships races in 2008, increasing the event to a record 14 races and raising total purses to an all-time
high of $25.5 million.
The two-day event will be televised live on ESPN.
Santa Anita will be the first Breeders' Cup site to hold the main track portion of the program on a synthetic surface. The Arcadia
track is scheduled to install an all-weather surface, which replaces its dirt track, this summer. Santa Anita is one of the world’s
great racing venues, an outstanding facility with a great tradition that will showcase top flight international racing for our fans.
The Breeders' Cup World Championships consists of 11 races with purses and awards totaling $23 million.
After adding three additional $1 million Breeders’ Cup races to the 2008 event, Breeders’ Cup officials
indicated that additional races may be added in future years.

Curlin put the finishing touches on a championship season with a stirring stretch run and splashed his
way to victory in the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
Curlin made $2.7 million for his two minutes of work in the Classic. He has now made $5,102,800 this year,
not bad for any horse, let alone one who sold for just $57,000 as a yearling.
Curlin's connections filled the winner's circle to celebrate a runaway triumph that locked up Horse
of the Year and the 3-year-old championship, that was worth $2.7 million. He has now made $5,102,800
this year.
Curlin paid $10.80, $5,20, and $4.20 while Hard Spun paid $7.60 and $5.80. Awesome Gem, a 28-1 shot,
returned $9.40 for the show. The exacta paid $70.80, while the $1 trifecta paid $645.30.
